Sense Organs

Vision: Their vision is similar to that of terrestrial vertebrates (mammals and birds). Some fish can see colours but it depends on their environment. E.g. Deep water fish will not need eyes where there is no light.

Hearing: They do not have any external ears but fish in the Order: Ostariophysi have some form of hearing. It works when sound goes through the swim bladder then to the Weberian Ossicles and finally to the inner ear of the fish. They can use their hearing to approximate distance and direction of the source of the sound.

Lateral Line: Along the side of a fish’s body is a sometimes visible line. The line has pores containing hair like structures which are connected to nerves. They can sense movements of the water from either prey or predator.
